2005 – Nova Scotia
A native of Glasgow, Scotland, Dr John McNab came to Canada at the age of 5. He is an honours graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto.
“Dr John”, as he is known by many of his patients in the community of Fall River, Nova Scotia, is a partner with eight other family doctors in the Fall River Family Practice.
John is a Clinical Lecturer in the Departments of Family Medicine and Nursing at Dalhousie University. He is an examiner for certification in Family Medicine for the College, a former member of the College’s Board of Directors, and is Past President of the Nova Scotia College of Family Physicians. He has served as a peer reviewer for Canadian Family Physician and sat on the Nova Scotia Task Force on Nursing, the Ministerial Working Group on Nurse Clinicians, and the Task Force on Regionalized Health Care.
John and his wife Marion have five children ranging in age from three to 22 and enjoy a rich family life in Oakfield, near Fall River. He is active in his community and church and involved in public speaking on topics of medical interest, theology, ethics and sexuality. He is a founding member of “His Mansion”, a rehabilitation farm for youth in rural PEI.
John sums up his passion for family medicine: “It is from this trusted position as the keeper of our patients’ life stories that we become advisors, advocates and cheerleaders for our patients.”
