Practicing rural family medicine for over 35 years, Dr Karen Lundgard has a reputation for approaching each day with the enthusiasm of a new graduate. Exuding commitment and leadership, Karen works tirelessly to the benefit of her patients, colleagues, and community in Peace River, Alberta. She provides full service family medicine care through her office practice as well as emergency care, inpatient care and obstetrics.
A graduate from the University of Alberta, Karen became a Certificant of the CFPC in 1979 and a Fellow in 2004. In addition to her practice, Karen is a clinical lecturer and Assistant Clinical Professor for the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Alberta. She serves as Chief of Staff at Peace River Hospital and instructs medical staff in Paediatric Advanced Life Support as well as Advanced Cardiac Life Support programs and MoreOB courses.
Recognized for her dedication to maternity care, Karen has served on the Provincial Child Health Committee for the Alberta Medical Association and is a member of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada. Incredibly, she delivers the majority of the babies born in Peace River each year!
Karen lends her creative energy to sewing baby blankets to support the annual women’s shelter fundraiser. She is cherished as a veteran Girl Guide leader and also enjoys taking courses in stained glass, organizing book clubs, and dining out on Mexican cuisine. Karen and her husband Jerrold, have three sons, Kris, Lee, and Kjol.
